Monique has curated a collection of Old and New World wines from Texas, Spain, Italy, France and California that are unrivaled in their quality and flavor profiles. In 2022, the family expanded by opening the adjoining Bentley Hotel on 290 (just steps away). The hotel is the perfect hill country getaway! Plus, 290 Wine Castle Wine Club members receive special discounts at the hotel. This is an escape for adults as the hotel is only for ages 21 and up. Take a break and book your weekend stay.
The 290 Wine Castle at Chateau de Chasse sits on 11-acres of the beautiful Texas hill country just outside of Johnson City on the 290 Wine Trail. The growing vineyards consist of: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Syrah varietals. The castle family strives to present the best wines from Texas and other wine-producing families from around the world. For this reason, we have selected varietals from the following regions to bring you limited quantity wines that we believe you will truly enjoy!
Along the eastern coast of Spain lies the largest wine region within the province of Valencia. Wine has been growing here for thousands of years and continues to be the largest economic force in this area. This land is primarily flat and dry, making it an excellent climate for the native Bobal grape. Wines coming from this area include: Encanto, Castillo Tinto, Cava, Finca la Beata, and The End.
This region is found in the north-eastern area of Italy in the Veneto wine area. It is named for the river that flows through it and is regulated as a DOC where strict laws govern the production of wine. Raboso grapes are one of the local varieties that grow well in this fertile region. Wines coming from this area include: Prosecco Frizzante and Raboso.
Located within a stone’ throw of the Adriatic Sea, this eastern Italian wine region contains limestone-rich soils that produce some of the best white wines and highest quality red wines in the area. The Montepulciano and Sangiovese grapes are mostly grown inside this district. Wines coming from this area include: Pecorino, Portese, Passerina, and Cugnolo.
This northern Italian wine region is just below Austria and located among glacial valleys with breathtaking mountain views. This is a small region, but the climate is perfect for growing Pinot Noir and Merlot grapes. The local Lagrein and Schiava grapes are also planted here to produce some of the best red wines in the area. Wines coming from this area include: Bischofsleiten, Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, and Reserve Merlot.
Regions: Lodi, Sierra Foothills, Sonoma, Mendocino, North Coast & Santa Barbara: The West coast climate of California produces some of the best wines in the United States. These regions produce many organically grown grapes that fare well in the cool Pacific breezes. Wines coming from these areas include: Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Sirah, Chardonnay, Sangiovese, Reserve Malbec, and Viognier.
Inside the Panhandle is the second largest American Viticultural Area (AVA) in Texas. The Texas High Plains covers eight million acres of wine country that is 3500 feet above sea level. The most regularly planted grape varieties here are Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel. Wines coming from this area include: Dolcezza and Bountiful.
This region is the largest AVA in Texas and the second largest inside the United States. The west Texas climate can bring extreme heat and little rain but grape varietals such as Cabernet Franc and Syrah grow tremendously well despite the harsh weather conditions. The 290 Wine Castle estate will produce Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc.
We are doing our part to save the bees! Currently, we have two thriving hives busy at work making Texas woodsy honey. The bees and Buckfast queens were sourced from central Texas. The honey they make is featured on our Royal Cheese Tower available for pre-order in the 290 Wine Castle tasting room. We look forward to offering beekeeping classes in the future!
This class will cover beginner beekeeper basic knowledge and much more. We will go over protective gear and safety plus the parts of the hive, tools and who is in the hive. You’ll be fully covered, head to toe. Signed waivers will be required to take the class.
This class will be the bee’s knees!
At the end of the class, you will be able to try some local honeys paired with our wines. These classes will be limited in size and availability!
